A few days after agreeing to a lucrative, multi-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks, former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold is already giving his old team's fan base a reason to be unhappy with him.
Following the decision by the Los Angeles Rams to release Cooper Kupp earlier this week, the All-Pro wide receiver quickly climbed to the top of the list of players on the free agency wish list for Vikings fans.
Well, on Friday, that bubble of hope that Minnesota fans had about the team potentially signing Kupp was burst by ESPN's Adam Schefter when he revealed that the veteran pass-catcher has decided to join Darnold and the Seahawks.
Kupp will now be catching passes from the former Vikings quarterback next season as they look to lead Seattle to its first playoff win since the 2019 campaign.
Minnesota Vikings likely weren't willing to pay what the Seattle Seahawks are giving Cooper Kupp
While the idea of Kupp stepping on the field in a Minnesota uniform next season was fun for some to think about, the likelihood of it actually happening probably wasn't very high, especially after finding out how much money the Seahawks have agreed to pay him.
According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Seattle and the former Rams receiver have agreed to a three-year contract worth $45 million.
With the Vikings already having Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison at the top of their wide receiver depth chart, there was no way they were going to pay Kupp $15 million per season to be the team's No. 3 receiver.
It's definitely great news for Darnold, who will now have another reliable target to throw to in 2025, along with Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. It certainly won't be the same as what it was like to play in an offense with Jefferson and Addison, but the former Minnesota quarterback should still be able to make plenty of plays for Seattle next season.
