Former Minnesota Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs will miss the remainder of the 2024 NFL season after he suffered a torn ACL in the Houston Texans’ Week 8 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

The injury, which was reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, occurred in the third quarter when Diggs went down with no contact. Diggs immediately clutched his knee and did not return to the game, which the Texans won by a score of 23-20 and head coach DeMeco Ryans told reporters “We’ll see where he is,” during Monday’s session with the media.

Stefon Diggs' season (and perhaps his tenure with the Texans) may be over

Stefon Diggs was in his first season with the Texans, catching 47 passes for three touchdowns and helping the Texans to the top of the AFC South standings alongside fellow receivers Nico Collins and Tank Dell.

A fifth-round pick by the Vikings, Diggs spent five seasons in Minnesota, catching 365 passes for 4,623 yards and 30 touchdowns. But he is most remembered for catching Case Keenum’s pass in the “Minneapolis Miracle” game in the 2017 divisional round of the playoffs.

Despite being a fan favorite, Diggs’ relationship with the Vikings and head coach Mike Zimmer soured over his role of the offense. Diggs was traded to the Buffalo Bills in a trade that brought Justin Jefferson to Minnesota with the 22nd overall pick in the 2020 draft but Digs became a superstar, making the Pro Bowl and catching over 100 passes and gaining 1,000 yards in all four seasons with the Bills.

Another fallout with the coaching staff and quarterback Josh Allen followed, however, and the Texans acquired Diggs in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2025 draft this past spring.

With Diggs’ season over, the question becomes what’s next for the 31-year-old. Diggs restructured his contract to become a free agent after this season and its unclear what the market would be for a 31-year-old coming off a torn ACL.

Diggs was on pace to put up the numbers he had with the Bills, however, and his next stop could be an interesting storyline for Vikings fans who are continuing to follow his career.
