Many Minnesota Vikings fans wondered if the team would bring former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones back for the 2025 NFL season to act as the primary backup to young quarterback J.J. McCarthy.

There were so many theories and ideas floating around about the Vikings' quarterback situation that the conversation about Jones got lost in the shuffle but his signing with the Indianapolis Colts meant that he wouldn't be staying in Minnesota.

Surprising new details revealed about Minnesota Vikings negotiations with Daniel Jones

When thinking about the fit for Daniel Jones in the league, the Colts have a lot to offer. Anthony Richardson isn't guaranteed to start the whole season if healthy and it is possible Jones could push the young quarterback to win the role outright.

In Minnesota, J.J. McCarthy has a clear path to a starting role. A first-round pick of the Vikings in 2024, the team will finally have a chance to see his skills when he's fully recovered from a knee injury that forced him to sit out his rookie season.

It's hard to fault Daniel Jones for taking a job where he could have a bigger role with a team, but NFL Insider Tom Pelissero recently shared another interesting angle on the signing that might change how fans think of the situation.

In a YouTube video shared by KFAN, Pelissero discussed the Vikings' quarterback situation, including trade calls about J.J. McCarthy, the Aaron Rodgers drama, the backup situation, and much more chatter about the position.

"[The Vikings] were competitive in their offer. From my understanding, they offered more money to Daniel Jones but once they realized that in a place where again, quarterbacks want to come to Minnesota, every veteran out there would love to come to Minnesota. When they got the sense that Daniel Jones was not committed and convicted that he wanted to come back, they pulled the offer."

Considering Jones got to work with the Vikings while on the practice squad and elevated to the 53-man roster and was still unsure about re-signing says a lot about how he felt about his time in Minnesota and his possible future.

Perhaps he wasn't sure about putting a possible starting role on hold while he worked in Minnesota but the Vikings weren't going to wait around for him to change his mind. Considering the team has been great with quarterbacks and has been rated one of the best franchises to work for, it's a bit surprising for Jones to take a small pay cut to sign with Indy.

Jones could have looked at another season in Minnesota as an investment in his future and time to hone his game, but he instead took the opportunity to look for something more immediate to get on the field.
