The Minnesota Vikings need to do something about their quarterback situation. At the very least, the team needs a capable backup passer to push J.J. McCarthy to be better. At the other extreme, this team could look to an established signal caller to start and act as a mentor for the team's young quarterback.
Aaron Rodgers is a polarizing individual, especially in Minnesota. However, the idea of the 42-year-old quarterback coming to the Vikings for a season could make the team contenders after a frustrating 2025 season.
No matter what your feelings are about Rodgers, the possibility of the former Green Bay Packers, New York Jets, and Pittsburgh Steelers passer coming to the purple and gold decreased dramatically on Saturday.
Fans of the Minnesota Vikings who want Aaron Rodgers to be the team's next quarterback won't like the chances of it happening.
Saturday was a big day for news related to the Minnesota Vikings. The biggest news came when reports dropped about the Pittsburgh Steelers working to finalize a deal with Mike McCarthy to be their next head coach.
That announcement made it likely that defensive coordinator Brian Flores will return to the Vikings in 2026 since it was the last of the head coach positions that he interviewed for.
While that is great news for Minnesota's defense, their offense became much less likely to have Aaron Rodgers under center.
McCarthy was the quarterbacks coach in Green Bay in 1999 before becoming the Packers' head coach in 2006. He held that position until 2018. That overlaps with when Rodgers was drafted by them in 2005, since he remained there until 2022.
Aaron Rodgers had an excellent 2008 season with Mike McCarthy as his head coach. Despite Green Bay only winning six games that year, Rodgers threw for over 4,000 yards with 28 touchdowns to 13 interceptions.
If Rodgers decides to return to the NFL for another season, it would make more sense for him to return to the Pittsburgh Steelers now that Mike McCarthy is there instead of jumping ship to the Minnesota Vikings.
The ten-time Pro Bowl quarterback, who has won four MVP awards, can't be happy with how his season ended with the Steelers and could want to give the league one more year before he decides to retire for good.
Although the odds of Aaron Rodgers coming to the Minnesota Vikings are lower now, it doesn't mean that it would be impossible. The purple and gold need to do something for their quarterback room this offseason and only time will tell if the Super Bowl XLV MVP will be part of the team's plans.
