The Vikings don’t just like to watch their possible QB draft targets throw the football, they also want to sit down with these guys in a casual setting and get to know them.

That’s exactly what the Vikings did a couple weeks ago with Johnny Manziel, taking the QB out to dinner after his much-hyped pro day workout in College Station. And according to Ben Goessling, it’s what they will do Wednesday with Zach Mettenberger after his workout at LSU.

Advice for Zach: get the most expensive thing on the menu. The Vikings have lots of money.

LSU’s Mettenberger has become the hot name in Viking draft speculation circles ever since Tony Pauline reported that, according to multiple sources, the Vikes are very high on Mettenberger and want to take him in the second round.

Norv Turner has likely done all the tape work he needs to on Mettenberger, and on Wednesday he will get to watch the LSU QB throw in person.

People argue about the value of these workouts, but Norv has said he likes seeing players throw live, so clearly this part of the process has value at least to him.

Mettenberger, who is coming off a major knee injury, won’t just throw at the pro day, he will participate in all the drills.

And when drills are over, Mettenberger will get a one-on-one with Vikings brass, followed by dinner with Rick Spielman and Mike Zimmer.

I don’t know for sure what conversational topics will come up during dinner, but I’m guessing Mettenberger’s 2010 arrest for drunkenly groping a woman outside a bar will be addressed.
