Vikings OTAs: Matt Cassel Takes All First Team Reps On Thursday

facebooktwitterreddit

What happened to the three-way quarterback competition? Funny thing about that. Wednesday it was all about how Matt Cassel, Teddy Bridgewater and Christian Ponder are even, but on Thursday, the Vikings gave all the first team reps at quarterback to Matt Cassel.

What gives yo?

Well first of all, you should not worry about Teddy Bridgewater. The rookie QB couldn’t take first team reps or any reps on Thursday because he was excused from OTAs to attend the NFLPA’s rookie premiere event in Los Angeles.

But what about Christian Ponder? I can’t say what it means for Ponder, but Cassel got all the first team reps on Thursday. Maybe the Vikings have just decided to end the charade and let Cassel get to work. Maybe someone on the Vikings enjoys messing with Ponder’s head. Maybe they enjoy messing with us.

Maybe Ponder had a little head cold or something. Really, I don’t know. And really, I don’t think it matters all that much, except as a form of somewhat perverse entertainment.

Okay, I’m bored. It’s OTAs. We need to amuse ourselves somehow. Let’s see what happens next. Ponder could come out and play receiver next. Anything can happen. Except, you know, Ponder becoming a good quarterback.
