The Washington Redskins made it happen Monday night with third-string QB Colt McCoy at quarterback, and most are expecting McCoy to get the start this weekend when the Redskins square off against the Vikings.

But…not so fast. Things are developing quickly on the RG3 front. The Redskins’ #1 QB, who has been out most of the season with a bad ankle, could be ready to go as early as this week.

Griffin is so close that he almost made his return Monday night against Dallas. The Redskins went with McCoy instead. Not Kirk Cousins who has been demoted to the bench for ineffectiveness.

You have to believe that Washington will go with RG3 as soon as he’s healthy. You also have to believe that Washington will be in no hurry to make their QB plans known, whatever they happen to be.

Jay Gruden will play that game where he refuses to announce a starter until the last possible moment, in hopes that this will screw with the Vikings’ defensive preparations.

RG3 does offer a unique challenge as a read-option QB with downfield passing ability, but you also have to think that Washington would try to limit his running coming off the injury. So even if RG3 plays, it won’t be the same RG3 we’re used to.

The last time the Vikings faced Griffin he absolutely ripped them to shreds with his read-options runs and accurate passing, but that was a different defense.

Mike Zimmer will have some looks for RG3 that Leslie Frazier did not. The Vikings currently have one of the league’s best defensive lines and you can bet those guys will be fired up to face Griffin if indeed he plays.
