Vikings vs Packers: 3 Reasons To Be Optimistic

Following the Vikings loss to the Chicago Bears last week, there doesn’t seem to be a lot to be too excited about with Minnesota’s football team.  The offense failed to move the ball efficiently against a struggling Chicago defense that was ranked near the bottom of the league in their ability to stop the pass.  In addition, the Vikings defense continually gave up huge plays to an oversized and overpowering Bears wide receiving corps.

After that game, some fans have hit rock bottom.  However, they should cheer up!

Anything can happen on any given Sunday in the NFL and I’ll give you five reasons why you should be optimistic about Minnesota’s chances against Green Bay on Sunday.

Home Field Advantage.  TCF Bank Stadium might not seem like much of a home field advantage for Minnesota, but Vikings fans can get really loud if they get behind their team.  Minnesota will need to pack the stadium and get loud in order to disrupt the Green Bay offense and show support for the boys in purple.  The Vikings should be able to feed off the crowd for a bit of extra motivation on Sunday.

  • Minnesota’s #8 Pass Defense.   Although last week’s game wasn’t a good indicator of it, the Vikings actually have a pretty stout pass defense.  The team is only allowing an average of 225.2 passing yards per game entering the game against the Packers and have notched 10 interceptions on the season.  Green Bay’s wide receivers will match up better against the Vikings cornerbacks, who lacked the height to contest with Chicago’s pass catchers.
  • The Vikings Young Offense.  Soon, things will click for this Minnesota offense.  With a patchwork offensive line, rookie starters are quarterback and running back, and some very young faces as wide receiver, it will take time for things to mesh.  The Vikings currently have the #12 overall rushing offense, averaging 117 yards per game on the ground so far this year.  The home team will have to run the ball to have a chance against the Packers.
  • There are three great reasons to be excited about the Vikings game on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.  Do you have other reasons why you are optimistic about Minnesota’s chances in the game? What are you most looking forward to?  Discuss it in the comments below.
