Vikings vs Packers: 5 Predictions For Sunday’s Game

facebooktwitterreddit

Tomorrow, the Minnesota Vikings are scheduled to take on the Green Bay Packers LIVE from TCF Bank Stadium.  The two NFC North rivals will both have their eyes set on different goals on Sunday, with the Packers looking for sole possession of the division crown and the Vikings looking to get wins and stay competitive.  Normally, when two division rivals meet like this, you can throw all history and trends out the window.

While anything can happen on any given Sunday, here are my 5 predictions for Sundays Vikings vs Packers game:

Aaron Rodgers throws three passing touchdowns.  And all 3 go to different receivers.  I’ll even go as far as to guess that Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Davante Adams all join in the touchdown party.  Considering the Vikings have one of the best pass defenses in the NFL, only giving up an average of 225.5 passing yards per game, the team is on pace to yet again give up 27.2 passing touchdown on the year.  That’s about 10 less than last year, but still above average for the NFL.

  • Jerick McKinnon has over 1oo yards rushing and 50 yards receiving.  Much of the Vikings offense will look to go through the young running back as Minnesota has struggled to get things going in the pass game.  Owners of McKinnon in fantasy football leagues will definitely want to play him tomorrow, as he will get a bulk of the carries and several looks out of the backfield.
  • Nov 16, 2014; Chicago, IL, USA; Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (5) throws in the second half of their game against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. The Bears won 21-13. Mandatory Credit: Matt Marton-USA TODAY Sports

Teddy Bridgewater is sacked 3 times by the Packers defense.  While Teddy is good as stepping up into the pocket, the Vikings haven’t quite given him a pocket to do that with in recent games.  The Packers are one of the better teams in the NFL at getting to the quarterback and Clay Matthews‘ move to middle linebacker has helped rejuvenate his career.

  • Cordarrelle Patterson finally returns a kickoff for a touchdown.  After bringing 2 kicks back to the house last season, Patterson has yet to create that kind of magic again.  The young wide receiver has had time to heal and should be able to return to form in both the kick returning and pass catching games.  Plus, the weather could be a factor for the Green Bay coverage teams.
  • The Packers score early and often.  Green Bay will bust out to a 17-0 lead on the Vikings before Minnesota can answer with a score of their own.  After that score, the Vikings will remain competitive against the Packers.  In the end, the Vikings will never quite catch up to Green Bay, suffering a loss on their home field.
