Matt Asiata Gets A Chance To Shine Against Weak Panthers Run D

Earlier this week, I wrote an article about how Jerick McKinnon should have a great opportunity to have a huge game against Carolina on Sunday.  Matt Asiata was still struggling with a nagging concussion, so it appeared as though the rookie running back was primed to find the end zone for the first time in his career.

However, things change fast in the NFL.  Since that article was posted, Matt Asiata was cleared for the contest against the Panthers and Jerick McKinnon informed the media that he would miss the game with a back issue.

Now, the opportunity to take advantage of a weak Carolina run defense falls on the shoulders of Matt Asiata.

Asiata already has two games this season where he has found the end zone three times.  While it’s possible that the bruising back could replicate this accomplishment on Sunday, it would be asking a lot for a player that missed last week’s game due to a concussion.  It’s also possible that newly signed Ben Tate or young runner Joe Banyard could take some of his touches away.

Matt Asiata should be a huge part of the Vikings game plan on Sunday since Minnesota will need to rely on their run game against a struggling Panthers run defense if they want a great chance at a win.  And the Vikings need this win to stay competitive in the league and finish with a respectable record.
