Anthony Barr Placed On Minnesota Vikings Injured Reserve

It was announced today that the Minnesota Vikings have placed rookie linebacker Anthony Barr on Injured Reserve, ending his 2014 NFL season.

Anthony Barr was tabbed as a bit of a project after being the #9 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.  His raw talent and physical ability were an intriguing combination that saw Minnesota taking a chance on the UCLA linebacker.  However, he began paying dividends immediately for the Vikings.

He was the only rookie for Minnesota to be a day one starter.  He, along with Chad Greenway and Jasper Brinkley, made up a thumping group of linebackers.  Barr showed fantastic ability to sniff out screens, put pressure on quarterbacks and even drop back into coverage before an injury to his knee kept him out of action.  With only one game left this season, the Vikings have decided to place Anthony Barr on Injured Reserve and elevate linebacker Josh Kaddu to the team’s active roster.

Here are Anthony Barr’s 2014 NFL statistics:

  • 12 games played
  • 70 total tackles
  • 55 solo tackles
  • 4 sacks
  • 3 passes defended
  • 2 forced fumbles
  • 3 fumble recoveries
  • 1 fumble recovery TD

Barr will require a minor procedure on his knee, but it should have no impact on his availability for the Vikings 2015 training camp.  As he continues to grow and develop, Barr looks to be a blue chip player in the making, and one that should pay huge dividends for Minnesota in the future.

We at The Viking Age would like to wish Anthony Barr a full and speedy recovery.  We look forward to seeing him in training camp next season.
