Today’s Vikings-Bears game has not contained a lot of memorable action, but there was one play that had everyone standing up and taking note.

In the third quarter, Jay Cutler threw to Alshon Jeffery in the back of the end zone against Captain Munnerlyn for an apparent touchdown.
At least, the referees thought it was a touchdown.
Replay showed that the play was not only not a touchdown, it was not even close to being a touchdown.
Luckily for the Vikings, replay easily reversed the call and the Bears had six points taken off the board.
The question is how the refs ever managed to call the play a touchdown in the first place.
Usually when a play is reversed on replay it is at least close. This one was not even close. It was not close to being close.
It was so far from close, announcers Dick Stockton and Brady Quinn sounded stunned. You know you blew a call badly when even Dick Stockton can tell you messed up. That guy is senile as hell.
Jeff Triplette’s crew has not exactly distinguished itself today or most of the season. One wonders how many terrible calls it will take before the league removes Triplette as an official.
There was no excuse for missing the call on Jeffery’s not-even-close-to-being-a-touchdown. Were the officials even paying attention?
