U.S. Bank Buys Naming Rights to Vikings Stadium
By Dan Zinski
Up to now we’ve been referring to the Vikings’ new stadium as The New Vikings Stadium because we didn’t know what else to call it.
Now we know what else to call it.
Just call the new stadium…U.S. Bank Stadium. Catchy, eh?
Yeah not really. But that’s what the stadium is going to be called. And U.S. Bank reportedly paid $220 million for the privilege.
The 25-year naming rights deal was reported by Sports Business Journal, citing anonymous sources. U.S. Bank declined to comment.
The $220 million deal works out to $8.8 million-per-year, which is reportedly slightly less than what Levi’s paid to name the new 49ers stadium.
I guess when you’re a bank you ought to be able to negotiate yourself a better deal. I mean you are a bank after all!

The name “U.S. Bank Stadium” is neither exciting nor particularly inspiring, but the rights deal will bring in some revenue to help offset the massive cost of building and maintaining the facility, so I guess it’s all good.
Still, wouldn’t it have been nice for such a cool-looking stadium to have a cool-sounding name as well? Or at least something that paid homage to the history of the team?
Bud Grant Stadium has a nice ring to it. But that ain’t gonna happen.
