Former Minnesota Vikings center Mick Tingelhoff will be joining an elite rank of players when he’s inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this August.  It is a huge honor and it is one that Tingelhoff is taking seriously.  According at an article on PostBulletin.com, Mick has already arranged for his family and close friends to attend the ceremony that will be held in Canton, Ohio.

Here is his current plan according to Phyllis Tingelhoff, Mick’s wife:

"“Mick’s sister is coming with like 17 on the bus,” said Phyllis Tingelhoff. “They’re all her children and her grandchildren and a couple of friends. It’s a real nice bus with TVs and beds and everything. They’ve got two drivers since it’s about a 14-hour drive from Sioux City. They’ll have a great time on the bus, I’m sure.”"

Leading up to this event, there have been several former Minnesota Vikings players that have reached out to Mick Tingelhoff about how to handle being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  Former stars like Randall McDaniel, Ron Yary, and Paul Krause have all contacted Tingelhoff about accepting the honor.

But, to almost nobody’s surprise, McDaniel was the most vocal about the event.

"“When Mick got into the Hall (following a January vote), we sent them an email saying that ‘if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask,’ ” said McDaniel. “We had dinner just to go over things that are coming up. It’s kind of hard because they throw a lot of stuff at you.”"

For all the stuff that they have thrown at Mick Tingelhoff, the one thing that has stuck with the former Vikings offensive lineman is how big of an honor it is to be a part of such a prestigious group.  However, the idea of getting on stage and taking the microphone for a Hall of Fame speech could be overwhelming for just about anyone.

Still, Randall McDaniel had the perfect thing to tell Tingelhoff about the speech.

"“(McDaniel) just said, ‘Say what you want to say and do it,” ‘ Tingelhoff said. “He said, ‘You don’t have to speak too much.” ‘"

Personally, I don’t expect Mick Tingelhoff to do much talking during his induction.  When Tingelhoff was announced as one of the players to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, he was seen in tears and trembling as he took the stage for recognition.  Hopefully, the jitters will emotion will subside long enough for him for give a great induction speech.

From the sound of things, Mick seems ready to take the stage.

"“I’m not nervous at all,” said Tingelhoff. “I just know it’s quite an honor. (McDaniel, Krause and Yary) all have said to just enjoy it.”"

The Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement will take place on Saturday, August 8th with Tingelhoff’s Minnesota Vikings taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Hall of Fame Game the day after.
