Josh Robinson Apologizes For Offense Caused By Anti-Gay Marriage Tweets

facebooktwitterreddit

Josh Robinson caused a whole poopstorm Friday when, in the wake of the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling on gay marriage, he tweeted some rather controversial opinions about the subject.

Perhaps Robinson thought he could simply give his opinion in a public forum and let people digest at their leisure? No, that wasn’t how it went down.

Robinson’s remarks, particularly his tweet apparently comparing gay marriage to incest and pedophilia, were met with an immediate and powerful and widespread backlash.

Clearly Robinson was not ready for his words to be met with such sweeping and vehement denunciation. His first response was to fight back. Then he locked his Twitter account. Finally, he was forced to apologize.

Sort of.

In a text message to Star-Trib reporter Master Tesfatsion, Robinson went with the old “I apologize if I offended anyone” routine:

"“I apologize for any offense my tweets may have caused,” Robinson wrote in a text message. “In an attempt to express my beliefs, I created some confusion with my choice of words, and for that I apologize. I do not equate the Supreme Court’s decision on marriage equality with other social issues. There are obvious differences. However, I do believe that God’s laws will always supersede man’s laws. This belief is not from hate for anyone but from a love for my God and all those he created. Again, I’m sorry!”"

It’s fairly evident that Robinson was aided by the Vikings PR department in crafting his apology. They’re getting really good at that!

When all is said-and-done, Robinson’s somewhat confused take on this matter is of little consequence. Unfortunately, the timing of his remarks opened him up to being hammered.

Our opinion of his intelligence or scumminess, or whatever, is the least of Robinson’s worries right now. His biggest practical concern at present is keeping his job.

As things stand now, Robinson looks to be the odd-man-out as the Vikings attempt to get bigger and more physical at the outside corner positions. My prediction is that, once things shake out in training camp, Robinson and his controversial opinions will no longer be a problem for the Vikings and their hard-working PR staff.
