Adrian Peterson trusts Norv Turner and loves riddles

Star Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson had a disappointing game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Much of that is attributed to Peterson only getting 10 carries during the season opener, where he was eventually slidelined in favor of a better pass blocking running back.  Given the competitive nature of Adrian, some wondered if he would be unhappy with his role.

Recently, the Minnesota Vikings star running back spoke with ESPN.  He was asked about whether or not he had spoken to the coaching staff about his role with the team.  This is what he said:

"“If it ever got to that point, I would,” Peterson said. “But I have a lot of trust in coach Turner and what he’s going to ask of us. I still voice my opinion to him, as well. We’ll see how things flow this weekend.”"

The media, including bloggers like myself, have taken interest in seeing whether or not Adrian Peterson can succeed running the ball out of the shotgun formation.  Adrian himself admits that there are times when he tries to go too fast and doesn’t let the play develop, but we all know the damage that he can do when he runs out of the I-formation.

"“I try to get [to the line quickly]. Even when I don’t try to get there, I get there,” Peterson said. “It’s just being patient, with angles, with the offensive line, making sure they’re able to handle their responsibilities in the run play, depending what run is called. It’s really, really being patient, and then exploding. … We’ve been getting a lot of reps in the gun since OTAs [organized team activities], and I think we’ll continue to get these looks in the game, in live action. So we’ll just be able to improve as a unit, being on the same page.”"

While much of what we’ve had this week following the humiliating loss to the 49ers has been negative, it’s good to see that Adrian Peterson can still have a sense of humor.  Sports Illustrated has the former NFL MVP telling them a riddle.

"“30 cows in a pen, 28 chickens. How many didn’t?”"

Of course, this is a riddle that works much better when spoken out loud.  “28” sounds exactly like the words “twenty ate”, which would make the answer 10.  However, growing up on a farm, I’ve never seen a cow eat a chicken and I think I would be terrified if I ever saw that happen.

You can catch Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday when they take on the Detroit Lions.  Check your local listings for time and availability.
