Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Joe Webb is embracing his opportunity with the NFC champion Carolina Panthers as Super Bowl 50 rapidly approaches.

When the Minnesota Vikings drafted UAB’s Joe Webb in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft, they weren’t sure what they were getting. While Webb was one of the most athletic prospects available, he didn’t quite fit the job for any one specific position.

The Vikings tried him in several different places. They used him at quarterback, wide receiver, and special teams, but eventually he moved on from the team following the 2013 season and became a free agent.

Webb found a new home on March 21, 2014 with the Carolina Panthers. They found his athleticism to be a huge boost to their squad, making him their 3rd quarterback, 5th wide receiver, emergency running back, and an essential part of every special teams package.

According to an article on the Star Tribune website, Joe Webb is embracing his opportunity with the Panthers and is very excited about his role in Sunday’s Super Bowl 50.

"“This feels great,” the former Viking said. “I’ve waited a long time for this.”"

Unlike his time with Minnesota, the Panthers seem to find just about any excuse they can to put Joe Webb on the field. His ability to contribute in so many ways makes him a valuable asset to the team, and it also lets Webb feel like a more important part of the unit.

While some NFL players don’t embrace playing special teams, Webb likes getting involved any way that he can.

"“It’s better than holding a clipboard on the sideline,” Webb said. “Any time I can get on the field, I’m all for it.”"

It is great to see Joe Webb getting an opportunity with the Carolina Panthers. Even though things didn’t work out between him and the Minnesota Vikings, Webb is still one of those guys that works hard and is exciting to watch.
