Don’t look now but it appears that 3-way open quarterback competition may be down to a 2-way open quarterback competition. Jay Glazer visited Vikings camp Sunday and he noted the division of practice reps between declared #1 (but not yet named starter) Matt Cassel and rookie Teddy Bridgewater.

"Leaving Vikings for Green Bay. Hugeeee optimism here for Bridgewaters future. He and Cassel pretty much splitting reps. May not be Week 1 starter but he’s definitely been more impressive than they expected."
I think what Glazer meant there was huuuuge optimism. As in huger than huge.
Indeed, Bridgewater has been getting a lot of positive reviews thus far in camp. He may not have done enough to supplant Cassel as of yet, but he’s getting there.
As for that supposed three-way battle between Cassel, Bridgewater and Christian Ponder? We knew that was baloney anyway. The fact is that the math never added up. It’s hard enough getting a starter ready with the reps divided two ways. Dividing them evenly between three QBs? It was never feasible.
We’ll see how things shake in the coming days, but I have to believe the Vikings will gradually weight the reps more toward Cassel as they try to get him ready for the start of the season. Unless something dramatic happens, it will still be Cassel behind center week 1.
