Former Bengal BenJarvus Green-Ellis, a guy Zim will know well from their time together in Cincy, is currently a free agent. Jason La Canfora has sort of connected BJGE to the Vikings.
The Law Firm is getting up there, at least in running back terms, and the fact that he’s been injured doesn’t exactly give you confidence.
I personally am hard-pressed to see how BJGE would be an upgrade over Matt Asiata who is younger, has less mileage on him and is basically the same style of back.
But with Adrian Peterson likely out for the rest of the season as he serves his suspension that’s not really a suspension, the Vikings might feel they need another back with some experience who can shoulder some of the load.
Jerick McKinnon has far more promise as a player but it doesn’t seem Norv Turner is all that comfortable with getting him more involved in the game plan at this time.
Joe Banyard has been elevated from the practice squad but, despite some people’s weird fascination with him, he seems like a rather middling option at this point.
