As often happens in the NFL, some players leave the ship in search of new horizons. Below are some news and notes about former Vikings players still active in professional football, focusing on the past week or so.
Mcleod Bethel-Thompson
The former Vikings practice squad QB was signed to the Dolphins practice squad Wednesday. “MBT” as he is affectionately known, spent time with the Vikings each of the last two seasons. In Miami he is expected to compete with undrafted free agent Seth Labato from Northern Colorado for the 3rd QB spot. Notably MBT is only on the Dolphin practice squad, and it isn’t inconceivable that he could be back with the Vikings in the future.
AC Leonard
The former Vikings TE, who showed some flashes in training camp but was mysteriously cut appeared in his first pro football game Wednesday night for the Brooklyn Bolts. He appeared right at home for the Bolts of the FXFL and just like MBT it’s not implausible he could be back with the Vikings in some capacity with injuries to the Tight End position.
Chris Cook
The former Viking CB exited the 49’ers Sunday night contest with the Denver Broncos with a hamstring injury. It’s doubtful that the Vikings miss Cook, who didn’t have an interception in his time with the team.

Kurt Coleman
Another former Vikings DB, safety Kurt Coleman iced the game for the Kansas City Chiefs with an interception of Philip Rivers with 8 seconds left in the AFC West matchup. Coleman didn’t appear in the regular season for the Vikes but an interception is something the purple definitely could have used Sunday against the Bills.
Percy Harvin
The former Viking wide receiver was traded from the Seattle Seahawks to the New York Jets Friday for a conditional 6th round pick. The Jets get a potential play maker with a lot of baggage, while the Hawks “disown the problem child” so to speak. Harvin is a talent the Vikings would like to have on the team, but simply has to much baggage to make work, especially with the addition of a similar player Cordarrelle Patterson two drafts ago.
