Adrian Peterson Trial On-Track for Dec. 1 Start

Adrian Peterson got some good news in his battle to expedite his child abuse case as much as possible and hopefully get back on the field in 2014.

On Wednesday, a Texas judge denied the prosecution’s request to force Judge Kelly Case off of Peterson’s case. A motion to have Case recuse himself was filed after Case allegedly made disparaging remarks about DA Brett Ligon.

This is all very technical and legalistic and boring. For our purposes, the important point is that a major tie-up has been un-tied and now the case can move forward with the original judge.

This means that Peterson’s trial is back on-schedule, set to begin December 1. A pretrial hearing is set for November 4.

But the first order of business for Judge Case will be to deal with Peterson’s possible bond revocation for admitting to smoking pot.

Peterson made the admission that he recently ingested cannabis before a scheduled drug test the day of his arraignment. The prosecution wants Peterson’s bond ripped and Peterson re-arrested for violating the terms of his bond.

While all this plays out, Peterson remains on the exempt list, being paid the full value of his $11.7 million salary for 2014. It remains a very long-shot that Peterson will play another down this year and a fairly long-shot that he ever suits up for the Vikings again at all.

In his place, rookie Jerick McKinnon has rushed for 309 yards on 60 carries but with 0 TDs.
