For 6 years, defensive end Jared Allen was a mainstay in the Minnesota Vikings defense. However, after last season, Allen decided that he wanted to play for a contender and chase a Super Bowl win. He ended up signing with the Chicago Bears.
His season with the Bears hasn’t gone as well as he had hoped. As of now, the charismatic pass rusher only has accumulated 1.5 sacks in his first 8 games for Chicago. While some will say that Jared Allen is washed up and past his prime, they should remember that he has been battling illness this season while dealing with a bout of pneumonia.

Jared Allen could get back on track on Sunday when he goes up against a struggling Matt Kalil. While the Vikings offensive line has been struggling as a whole, Matt Kalil’s play at left tackle has been particularly suspect. There have been a couple times this year where he has stepped up and played a solid game, but for the most part, pass rushers have had their way with him.
Containing Jared Allen will be a big part of the Vikings strategy for a win. No team enjoys being shown up by a former player and I expect that to be doubly true for a player who left to go to a division rival that currently has a worse record than the team they left.
Vikings fans will hope that Jared Allen’s trend of never winning a game at Soldier Field continues on Sunday when Minnesota travels to Chicago. And if the Bears continue to struggle the way they have been, it just might happen.
