Week 11 NFC North Recap: Vikings Back In The Cellar

5 of 5

Minnesota Vikings  4-6

The Vikings couldn’t get anything going in their 13-21 loss to the Chicago Bears in week 11.  After coming off two wins over the Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Minnesota looked like a team without an answer to anything that the Bears threw at them.

The Vikings offensive line was terrible in protecting rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. In particular, left tackle Matt Kalil may have had one of his worst outings of his season against former Minnesota defensive end Jared Allen.  Although Bridgewater was only sacked twice by the Bears, he was constantly pushed out of the pocket and forced to try to dump the ball off on short passes.

And those short passes weren’t there.  Chicago wasn’t blitzing a lot, so the attempted screens and short passes were met by a Bears defense that had no fear of the deep ball.  Despite that, Teddy Bridgewater still completed 18 of his 28 passes for 158 yards and one touchdown to tight end Rhett Ellison.  Still, there was one player who had a great game offensively for the Vikings.  Charles Johnson caught all 6 of he passes Teddy Bridgewater threw his way for a total of 87 yards, which is more than the rest of the team’s pass catchers combined.

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler was intercepted two times in the game, one of them by Harrison Smith.  The other was picked off by second year cornerback Xavier Rhodes, who nabbed his first career interception.  Meanwhile, the much vaunted Vikings pass rush was nearly non-existent against the Bears and Minnesota failed to sack Jay Cutler even once in the game.

Minnesota will host the Green Bay Packers in their week 12 matchup.
