Matt Kalil Reportedly Gets Into It With Fans After Vikings Loss

Matt Kalil had a rough day at the office today for the Vikings, contributing to Minnesota’s 24-21 loss to the Packers by committing a trio of penalties.

It’s not Kalil’s bad play that’s really disturbing though – we’re used to that by now, quite frankly – it was the way the third-year offensive tackle allegedly acted after the game that’s truly bothersome.

According to Star Tribune hack Jim Souhan and other media members, the embattled Kalil bolted from the locker room after the game without speaking to reporters. Souhan’s description of Kalil’s behavior is really sad for Kalil:

"He spun, grabbed his satchel, stuck his phone to his ear, cut past four reporters and headed to the exit of the Vikings’ locker room. One reporter tried to stop him at the door, but Kalil said, “Sorry, I’m on the phone,’’ and was gone."

Players duck out on the media all the time. It’s a bad look but it happens.

What doesn’t happen – and never ever should happen – is players getting into it with fans in the parking lot. But according to one eyewitness account, that’s exactly what went down.

Per Twitter user @hutsy81, Kalil got into a shouting match with a fan outside the stadium.

This is one report from one person and therefore potentially not accurate. It’s possible this person is lying to make Kalil look bad. We shouldn’t have any trouble getting confirmation on this report if it is in fact true.

And if it is true? Matt Kalil has some explaining to do.

Of course fans have no business confronting players outside the stadium. If you want to rip them on Twitter or call into talk shows go ahead. But physically going after them when they’re trying to get to their car and get home after a bad day is a low-rent move.

That being said, if you’re Matt Kalil, you have to be mature enough to just walk away from that. You can’t let rude fans get to you so much you’re actually arguing with them and allegedly knocking their hats off their heads.

It’s one short leap from that kind of thing to a full-on fight that could end in assault charges or lawsuits or worse.

Clearly, Matt Kalil is not handling his struggles very well, either on the field or off the field. I’m sure Mike Zimmer or someone in the Vikings organization will sit down with Kalil and discuss why he can’t be doing this.

Maybe it’s time to assign a permanent babysitter to Kalil so he doesn’t get in any serious altercations. I know it’s not fun being Matt Kalil right now but getting into it with fans, that is just serious stupidity right there.

If it really happened. Frankly the way things have been going with Kalil, it would not surprise me if this were all true.
