It’s unlikely that you have been keeping up with the career progress of Mike Remmers since he was let go by the Vikings during final cuts earlier this year.

So you will likely be surprised to know that Remmers is currently on the Carolina Panthers’ 53-man roster. And not only that, Remmers will actually be starting at right tackle for Carolina this weekend against the Vikings.
What possibly could have happened to the Panthers’ offensive line to result in former Vikings practice squad mainstay Remmers being elevated to starter for a regular season game?
Everything. Everything has happened to the Panthers’ offensive line.
They started with Nate Chandler at right tackle, but he went on IR with a knee. Carolina intended replacing him with swing lineman Amini Silatolu but he is dealing with swelling and soreness in the same knee he had surgically repaired in the offseason.
That left Ron Rivera with two men to choose from for this weekend’s game: Remmers or Chris Scott. Perhaps believing that Remmers will be extra-motivated to face his old team, Rivera settled on the former Viking.
If Brian Robison isn’t salivating over the chance to tear up Mike Remmers, he should be. Then again, Robison has had some other favorable matchups this year and hasn’t always taken advantage.
Robison couldn’t even consistently beat a tight end who was forced to play tackle for the Falcons after a bunch of injuries, so why should we have faith in his ability to maul Mike Remmers?
