An old familiar face could be present at Lambeau Field tonight when the Packers take on the Falcons, and I’m not talking about Desmond Howard.

According to multiple media reports, former Packer and Viking QB Brett Favre is scheduled to be in attendance tonight in Green Bay.
This morning Favre was reported to be on a plane headed north in the company of Bart Starr Jr., the son of Hall of Fame QB Bart Starr.
As far as we know nothing ceremonial is planned for Favre’s appearance tonight. It sounds like a casual thing where he will be hanging out with Packers officials.
A few months ago it was reported that the Packers plan to retire Favre’s number during an offseason ceremony, then unveil the retired number at Lambeau some time during the season.
Tonight’s appearance makes you wonder if Favre isn’t trying to test the waters with Packer fans with an eye toward participating in an actual on-field number retirement ceremony next year.
Things have been frosty between Favre and Packer fans ever since Favre left the team, and only became frostier when Favre signed with the Vikings for the stated purpose of sticking it to Ted Thompson.
Since that ugly divorce and the subsequent Vikings tenure, Packer fans have watched Aaron Rodgers develop into one of the best QBs in the league. They also watched their team win a Super Bowl without Brett Favre.
You’d think Packer fans would be gracious enough to let bygones be bygones but you know a big part of that fanbase will never forgive Favre.
But Favre it seems is ready to forgive them and be welcomed into the fold. We’ll see how things go for him tonight in his return to Lambeau.
Update: It now appears there is some confusion about Favre’s plans in Green Bay tonight.
It’s true that Favre is on his way to his old stomping grounds in Wisconsin but a report by Chris Mortensen says Favre plans to attend an event in honor of Bart Starr at Brett Favre’s Steakhouse and is not planning to be at the game.
That doesn’t mean Favre won’t be at the game, it just means that as of now it does not appear he means to be at the game.
But with Favre you don’t know. He could change his plans at any point. He does that.
