With the season winding down, the Vikings are shuffling their roster to cut loose veterans who don’t fit into their future plans while getting a look at younger players who may indeed have some value down the road.

Today Minnesota reportedly plucked RB Henry Josey from the Jacksonville practice squad, adding him to the active roster. Josey takes the roster spot that was vacated when the Vikes cut Ben Tate.

An undrafted free agent out of Missouri, Josey spent training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles but was let go after final cuts. The Jaguars added him to their practice squad on August 31st and there he remained until today.

Josey is a very small scatback type runner at 5-8/194, but he has nice speed as evidenced by the 4.39 40 he ran at the combine. The main concern on Josey going into the draft was durability. Teams were concerned not just about his lack of size but the fact that he tore his knee up and missed the entire 2012 season.

It’s possible Josey was someone Rick Spielman had his eye on before the draft but was unable to pick up during the UDFA signing period. The Vikes now get to look at him in practice for a week and possibly during the season finale to see what he has.
