Bob Lurtsema Says Vikings Will Be In 2017 Super Bowl

It’s been good for former Vikings recently unless they are currently a member of the Seattle Seahawks.  With Mick Tingelhoff being named to the 2015 induction class for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, it has brought out several former Minnesota players who have spoke with the media.  That list includes former Vikings defensive end Bob Lurtsema.

According to an article from Charley Walters at the Pioneer Press, Bob Lurtsema feels really good about the direction this team is heading in.  He even made a bold claim about how fast the Vikings can get to the promised land of the NFL, the Super Bowl:

"“Legitimately, the Vikings are two years away,” Lurtsema said. “The thing now is that Teddy Bridgewater, who is the real deal, doesn’t have a deep threat.”"

Two years?  That’s quite a short time to go from the 22nd best record in the NFL to playing on the game’s grandest stage.  That stage, by the way, would be the 2017 Super Bowl that is scheduled to be played in Houston, Texas.  Had Lurtsema said it would be 3 years, that would be Super Bowl LII that is scheduled to be played in the new Minnesota stadium

Another reason the Vikings will be in the big game next year, according to Bob Lurtsema, is the head coach of the team.

"“I absolutely love Zimmer — he has so much Bud Grant in him,” said Lurtsema, who played for the Hall of Fame coach. “Zimmer told me that he’s cut better athletes and kept lesser athletes who had more heart and more between their ears.”"

Bob Lurtsema played defensive end for the Minnesota Vikings from 1972 to 1976.  He also played for the New York Giants and the Seattle Seahawks during his 11 year NFL career.
