Falcons Piped-In Noise Scandal Brings Back Old Metrodome Rumors

It’s funny that the Atlanta Falcons got caught piping fake noise into the Georgia Dome during the 2013 and 2014 seasons. It’s funny because the Vikings and Twins supposedly did that for years at the Metrodome but, unlike the Falcons, never got caught.

Of course it’s only a rumor that the Vikings and Twins cheated by piping in fake noise and/or amplifying the already-existing crowd roar to give themselves a competitive advantage. Again, no one ever caught either team pulling this stunt, so it’s all just hearsay.

Despite the lack of proof, there are lots of people who remain convinced that the famous Metrodome noise advantage was occasionally enhanced via electronic shenanigans. Former Buccaneers QB Shaun King for instance:

Not an exactly an impartial observer. But how about supposedly unbiased announcer Al Michaels? He believes the Twins were using fake noise as far back as 1987.

Legendary Twins first baseman Kent Hrbek heard about Michaels’ remarks and had a message for the veteran play-by-play man.

It’s all fun and games but none of it gets us any closer to the truth about whether fake noise was ever used to give the Vikings or Twins an unfair advantage at the Dome.

Unless some whistleblower comes forth with definitive evidence that fake or enhanced noise was used, this will remain in the realm of rumor.

So far, neither the Vikings nor Twins have ever been caught. Which puts them one up on the Falcons who were nailed almost immediately.

Amateurs.
