On Saturday, February 7th, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota held a ceremony to honor their hometown boy, Adam Thielen.  While Thielen isn’t quite a household name yet, he’s been making quite an impression with Vikings fans, showing great special teams skills and even catching his first career NFL touchdown during the team’s 2014 season finale against the Chicago Bears.

Detroit Lakes held a big event in Thielen’s honor on Saturday.  It was hosted and sponsored by the Kiwanis Club at the Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center and gave the wide receiver a chance to give back to his home town.  He held two clinics for the youth in the area to learn some football fundamentals and interact with the community.

Adam Thielen’s mother is thrilled with his success given his opportunities according to an article on the Grand Forks Herald website:

"“Besides all of his hard work, he’s been awfully lucky and very fortunate,” Jayne Thielen, Adam’s mother, said."

Hard work is the key for Adam Thielen.  He worked his way up from being a little known recruit in High School to being a part of an NFL roster and scoring touchdowns.

"“It goes beyond just taking care of those opportunities,” Thielen said. “It goes back to the work put in during the off season. That’s really where it comes from and that’s how you’re successful, by preparing well.”"

Adam Thielen must know that he’s doing things right when he gets a day in his honor where he is given the key to his hometown.  Hopefully, he can continue to grow and develop with the Minnesota Vikings and keep impressing both his fans and the residents of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
