You might want to sit down for this one Viking fans. According to ESPN’s Ben Goessling, the Vikings have expressed interest in former Green Bay Packers ILB A.J. Hawk.

This would be the same A.J. Hawk who over the past several seasons has been arguably one of the most consistently unimpressive linebackers in the entire NFL.
It’s a toss-up who has been more consistently unimpressive, Hawk or Vikings LB Chad Greenway.
If we assume that there’s an ulterior motive behind all such news leaks, perhaps this can be read as an attempt at prodding Greenway toward restructuring his contract?
The Vikings owe Greenway $7 million for 2015, and though it’s believed that Greenway would be amenable to taking less money in order to stay in Minnesota, it never hurts to remind a guy that he’s not the only option.
It would be sort of hilarious if the Vikings were playing hardball with Greenway by putting Hawk’s name out there. Hilarious and a little bit sad.
If the Vikings are indeed serious about bringing Hawk on board, well, I guess he brings veteran experience to the table. And he isn’t afraid of cold weather. And he wouldn’t be super-expensive at this point.
Beyond that, I’ve got nothing. Hard to see the upside in signing another aging, below-average linebacker like Hawk.
