In 2014, Tom Johnson was second on the Vikings in quarterback sacks and proved his worth as a rotational player on the defensive line.  He was hoping to find a multi-year deal in free agency this year to cash in on his excellent play last year.  That wish was granted today when the Vikings signed him to a three year deal.

The news broke when USA Today’s Tom Pelissero announced the move on his twitter account.  Here is the tweet:

And the announcement was confirmed by 1500 ESPN’s Andrew Krammer via Twitter:

This is a fantastic deal for both Tom Johnson and the Minnesota Vikings.  Johnson gets a multi-year deal like he was hoping for and the Vikings don’t lose one of their most valuable backup defensive linemen.  He will serve a valuable role for the Vikings for the next three years, especially in obvious passing situations.

Congratulations go out to Tom Johnson and the Minnesota Vikings on getting this deal done and keeping a talented player on the roster.
