These are the key dates to keep in mind. Write these down so you don’t forget them.
OTAs: May 26-28, June 2-4, June 8-11
Mandatory Minicamp: June 16-18
There may be extra suspense around this year’s OTAs and mandatory minicamp with Adrian Peterson possibly holding out. You can bet there will be extra media at these events thanks to the Peterson drama (assuming the drama hasn’t been resolved by that point).
The Vikings also have a voluntary offseason workout April 20. Going out on a limb and guessing Adrian won’t be reporting for that one.
Outside of the Peterson drama, OTAs and minicamp give the coaching staff their first chance to look at rookies and new free agents. It’s also a chance for coaches to get a look at Teddy Bridgewater and see if he’s added the bulk they asked him to put on in the offseason.
Every now and then a good story even emerges from these offseason activities. A couple years ago the then-unheralded Adam Thielen impressed everyone at an early offseason work out and since then he’s steadily climbed the ladder to become a legit NFL player.
Will some unknown player make a huge impression this year and set himself on a course to future NFL greatness? You never know.
