The veteran combine was a great thing for former Northwestern QB Mike Kafka as it led to his signing a contract with the Minnesota Vikings.

Maybe next year Pat Devlin can perform at the veteran combine and score a deal with a new team. Devlin is out-of-a-job for the time-being after being waived by the Vikings to make room for Kafka.

The 26-year-old Devlin was picked up by the Vikings last year as an extra QB after Matt Cassel was placed on IR and practice squad QB Chandler Harnish went down with injury.

Before his stint with the Vikes, Devlin spent three years with the Miami Dolphins, accumulating zero stats in the process.

Devlin’s departure leaves the Vikings with three QBs on the roster heading into the draft. The Vikes will likely pick up one more QB either late in the draft or as a UDFA.

Meanwhile, Devlin’s replacement Mike Kafka is already in Winter Park getting his new Vikings gear. The former Northwestern QB knows what it feels like to wear purple.

He gets that stuff for FREE. And he gets to keep it even if he gets cut. Sweet deal.
