It has finally happened. Adrian Peterson has reported to Minnesota Vikings organized team activities.
With all the drama surrounding the star running back lately, it has been difficult to get excited about his spot on the team since we weren’t exactly sure what was going on with his status. While we’re still not 100% sure of Peterson’s intentions, his decision to go to Vikings is a massive step in the right direction.

If you guys listen to me on The Purple People Podcast, you know what I felt should happen in this situation. I kept saying that Adrian Peterson should attend OTAs to show good faith to the team that has stuck by him during all the hard times. Plus, going to OTAs could still result in his $250,000 bonus if the Vikings do like they did in the past and still give him the cash despite not attending 100% of the activities.
But the main reason why I feel like this is a win-win situation for Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings is that it gives Peterson two opportunities. The first is to show fans that he can still play at a high level. If the star running back comes back to the team and has a great season, two very important things can happen.
- Fans will come back around for Adrian Peterson. That’s right, despite what has happened with Adrian in the past, if he dominates during the 2015 NFL season, there’s no questioning that more and more fans will be taking their Adrian Peterson jerseys out of storage and be chanting his name at games.
- Adrian Peterson will get a contract he wants. We all remember when Peterson went to Twitter and ranted about the unfairness of contracts in the NFL. It seems as though he wants a contract with more guaranteed money down the road in order to “secure his future”. A solid 2015 campaign would definitely encourage the team to open up their wallet and work out a deal that is friendly for both the team and Adrian.
While I am one of the fans that is still frustrated with Peterson and isn’t quite ready to accept him back to the team, this is a major step in the right direction for both the Vikings and Adrian. It is this kind of show of faith from him that can help erase all the damage that has been done to his character over the past year.
I’d like to congratulate Adrian Peterson on making a great decision to join his coaches and teammates. Hopefully, the trend of good decisions will continue.
