Most fans of the Minnesota Vikings remember Robert Smith as the two-time Pro Bowl running back who had four consecutive years of over 1,000 yards rushing. However, modern fans may know him for his work as an analyst on ESPN and his regular interactions with fans on social media. But now, fans can get to know Robert Smith for wanting to help people get healthy.
With the help of Seattle-based developer Taqtile, Robert Smith has launched an application called “Fan Health Network“. The app, now available on Android and Apple, utilizes the expertise of sports celebrities to encourage good health and fitness. Among those involved in the project are players and sports figures including Cris Carter, Marcellus Wiley, and figures from other sports and broadcasting.
In a recent interview with Geekwire.com, Robert Smith spoke about why the Fan Health Network app is important to him.
"“With my background, I was intrigued with new ways to help make interventions before people got sick,” Smith said. “We kicked around the idea of using sports in some way to be the method of delivery for helpful information.”"
Any method of bringing information about healthy living to people is a positive in today’s society. Sadly, not a lot of emphasis is placed on fitness on social media sites and that is definitely something that Smith has noticed.
"“There’s a lot of noise on Facebook and Twitter, whether it’s the color of dresses or llamas — a lot of distractions,” Smith told GeekWire. “Health deserved its own space.”"
Robert Smith is hoping that Fan Health Network can help others find ways to “find their inspiration” to get be more aware of their health and live stronger, better lives.
It’s great to see a former member of the Minnesota Vikings being serious about wanting to spread the word about the positive effects of healthy eating and exercise. Adding in familiar sports celebrities to the great information should only encourage people to download the application and give it a try.
Hopefully, Robert Smith’s message will be heard loud and clear on the Fan Heath Network.
