While working in training camp with the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers Wednesday, Childs suffered an injury now being described as a torn Achilles tendon. Childs will reportedly miss the entire CFL season.
Childs was taken by Minnesota in the fourth round of the 2012 draft but never played a down for the Vikings after blowing out both patella tendons in training camp the same year.
Childs worked to return with Minnesota but was finally released ahead of the 2014 season. He spent time in rookie mini-camp with Jacksonville and later wound up with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL.
As a junior at Arkansas, Childs suffered his first major knee injury, blowing out one of his patella tendons. Before that injury he had flashed great potential as a speed receiver. That potential was why the Vikings took a chance on him in the fourth round.
Had it not been for all the injuries, Childs may have developed into a solid NFL receiver. But obviously his body was not up to the task.
The Vikings also drafted Childs’ Arkansas teammate Jarius Wright in the fourth round in 2012, and Wright has gone on to become a good role player for Minnesota.
