Trae Waynes To Work Out With Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson

When you list the names of elite cornerbacks in the National Football League, there are only a select few that make the cut.  There are Darrelle Revis, Richard Sherman, and Patrick Peterson at the top of the list.  Hopefully, one day Vikings rookie corner Trae Waynes will be mentioned in the same breath as these dynamic playmakers.

But the Vikings rookie is working hard to hopefully reach that level.  He’s been putting in a lot of time with the team’s coaches and players as well as doing quite a bit of effort on his own.  One of the things that Trae Waynes will be doing is visiting with the aforementioned Patrick Peterson before the 2015 season.

"“He’s somebody I look up to,” Waynes said in an interview with Pioneer Press. “He went to one of the colleges that I always watched, LSU. That’s where I wanted to go, and I’ve watched him ever since college.”"

Patrick Peterson has become a staple in the Arizona Cardinals defense and special teams as well as seeing a couple snaps on the offense in certain situations.  Peterson has proven himself to be a huge asset to the team and one that has earned him a 5-year contract worth over $70 million.

Trae Waynes knows how valuable the opportunity to work with Patrick Peterson is.  Peterson is a veteran who has earned the respect of fans, players, and coaches around the NFL.  However, Waynes isn’t willing to narrow down specifically what he’s hoping to learn from the veteran.

"“Some tricks of the vet. Because the vets, they know all the concepts and all this kind of stuff, like the little things that help slow the game down to make it easier. So hopefully that’s something he can show me.”"

Rookies in the NFL always need some time to adjust to the NFL.  This is especially true when it comes to cornerbacks since many of the game’s penalties are called differently at the NFL level.  It will take some time to learn what a player can and cannot get away with.

Once Trae Waynes learns what he can do and works hard to execute what he learns, he should be able to be a solid player for the Vikings.  But how quickly he can learn the small things to being a successful cornerback, the sky is the limit for his potential.  Or, according to Waynes, he can be as good as he allows himself to be.

"“As good as I push myself to be,” Waynes said about how good he can be. “And Coach (Mike Zimmer and other coaches) are going to push me. … They’re going to make me a better player. Hopefully, I can live up to the expectations.”"

And expectations are high for Trae Waynes among the Vikings fan base.  Hopefully, he can have an impressive rookie campaign and make a big impact on Minnesota’s secondary.
