Kevin Williams Settles for Signing With Saints, Ring Now Out of Reach
By Dan Zinski
Kevin Williams went to Seattle last year to win a ring. Had it not been for an unfortunate play call in the final seconds of the Super Bowl, Williams may very well have succeeded in his quest to become a champion.
I’m sure K-Will’s preference would have been to return to Seattle and take another shot at the prize, but the Seahawks decided to move on from the veteran defensive lineman, who served a primarily rotational role in 2014.
Williams hit free agency and quickly found out how thin the market is for 34-year-old backup defensive tackles. Actually, it’s a little surprising Williams found any market at all.
Ultimately, Williams did find a team willing to give him a deal, signing with the New Orleans Saints for one year.
The good news: Kevin Williams has a chance at making a roster in 2015 (though he will still have to get through training camp). The bad news: His shot at a ring appears to be gone.

Unlike the Seahawks, the New Orleans Saints are not serious contenders. The Saints really are just trying to cobble together a viable roster after plummeting off the map in 2014. Dreams of Super Bowl glory must seem very distant in the minds of past champions like Drew Brees as the Saints rebuild.
It’s a measure of New Orleans’ desperation that they even looked at Kevin Williams, a player who is barely hanging on in the NFL at this point.
It would have been a cool story for Williams, such a stalwart in his years with the Vikings (notwithstanding the occasional scandal), to finally get his championship. But unless the Saints get good fast, or Williams somehow manages to catch on with a real contender in 2016, it appears K-Will is not going to get his happy ending.
At this point, he should just be grateful any team wants him. Even if that team is the atrocious Saints.
