Recently, a photojournalist by the name of Scott Heins documented his trespassing on the construction site for U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Heins took photos from dangerous locations inside the structure while breaking the law and shared them with the website Deadspin.com in an article titled “An Illicit Tour Of The Vikings New Stadium”.
Because of this, the security efforts at the construction site will be stepped up.

That is good news, because the article by Scott Heins described gaining access to the stadium as “shockingly easy” since he squeezed through a gap in the fence and “slipped from sanctioned public space onto the rocky dirt of the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority.” Perhaps this is just an example of someone taking advantage of “Minnesota nice” or it could just be a huge oversight on the part of the construction company and stadium commission, but it is something that isn’t going to be allowed anymore.
According to an article on the TwinCities.com Pioneer Press website, senior vice president of stadium builder Mortenson Construction John Wood has a message for trespassers: that those engaging in these “illegal and very dangerous” activities will be facing major repercussions, as they hope to make an example of the stadium’s trespasser by “evaluating all options with local authorities to have this individual face consequences for his unlawful entry to the site.”
Hopefully, there won’t be many copycats of trespassers on the U.S. Bank Stadium build site. If there is, I would expect things to be much, much more difficult for those who are so readily willing to break the law and put themselves, and the construction site, in danger.
