Friday morning the team announced that they have parted ways with WR Gavin Lutman, a UDFA they signed in May out of Pittsburg State.
Unfortunately Lutman was unable to show the Vikings what, if anything, he brought to the table as he was sidelined with an injury from the start of camp.
Lutman’s spot on the roster will be taken by DT Greg Hickman, a former Detroit Lions UDFA and one-time FIU Panther.
Fun fact: Hickman played alongside current Vikings RG Isame Faciane at FIU. Faciane of course played DT in college and was signed by the Vikings as a DT but was converted to guard.
Current Vikings D-line coach Andre Patterson worked with both Faciane and Hickman at FIU. So I guess it pays to have connections.
The 6-2, 280-pound Hickman qualifies as an undersized defensive tackle. He played four years at FIU, finishing his career with a school-record 12 QB hurries.
As the FIU website notes, Hickman’s 9.5 TFL in 2013 ranked him 14th in C-USA in that particular statistical category.
So, get pumped about Greg Hickman.
For those who keep track of such things, Gavin Lutman has officially been waived with the injured designation due to a bad hamstring. That means he can be put on IR by the Vikings if he clears waivers.
