Vikings hope for 20-24 first team offense snaps vs Tampa Bay

The starters for the Minnesota Vikings only saw action for one series during the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.  The drive didn’t result in any points, but it was a longer series that saw many first downs picked up and some good things from the team to move the chains.

Although the first team didn’t see a lot of action during that game, Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner is hoping to see a little more action from the starters (minus star running back Adrian Peterson, of course) in tonight’s preseason contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Here is what he said in a quote from the official Tampa Bay Buccaneers website:

"“(Coach Zimmer) hasn’t set the number,” Turner said. “I hope it’s twice as many (as last game) because that’s what you normally do after the first preseason game. If we get the number of reps we want we should be in position to rest those guys in the last game.”"

As if we didn’t already have a good enough reason to watch this game, seeing the starting offense a bit longer than many expected will be a great thing to watch.  We will already see the first overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Jameis Winston, going up against his former teammate in Xavier Rhodes and former Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier as the defensive coordinator for Tampa Bay, but now thinking about seeing the first team offense a little longer has increased my desire to watch this game, not that I wasn’t going to anyway.

You can catch the game between the Vikings and Buccaneers at 7 pm central time tonight.  Be sure to check your listings for time and availability.
