On Tuesday the Vikings made the sadly inevitable move to place RT Phil Loadholt on injured reserve, bringing his 2015 season to an end.

To replace Loadholt on the roster, the Vikings signed former New York Giants UDFA OT Stephen Goodin.

Loadholt tore his Achilles tendon early in Saturday’s preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Rookie T.J. Clemmings has been tabbed to take his place in the starting lineup.

The 6-6, 310-pound Stephen Goodin played college ball at the University of Nebraska at Kearney before being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Giants in 2012.

Goodin appeared in one game for the Giants in 2013 and was with the Dallas Cowboys for the preseason in 2014.

The Vikings also reportedly showed interest in former Lions and Colts tackle Gosder Cherilus before he was signed by Tampa Bay.

At this time the Vikings are not known to have any interest in former Eagles All-Pro guard Evan Mathis, who remains a free agent.

Phil Loadholt also missed much of 2014 after suffering a torn pectoral muscle. The former 2nd round pick is signed through the 2016 season but there is no guarantee he will be retained for next year, especially if Clemmings shines at RT in his place.
