The future home of the Minnesota Vikings is currently still under construction, but there are already some great things in store for the facility when it opens. Minneapolis has already locked up an NCAA Final Four and a Super Bowl, but could the biggest professional wrestling event in the world be coming to U.S. Bank Stadium as well.
The rumors that a WrestleMania could happen in the new facility have been running wild for a while now. It started with pure fan speculation but grew into a real rumor when former WWE executive Patrick Talty was named the general manager for the stadium.
As if that wasn’t enough, executive VP of public affairs and stadium development Lester Bagley dropped what sounded like a major bomb in the debut edition of the miniseries “Building a Legacy: U.S. Bank Stadium” on the Vikings.com website.
"“This is a building, if we can get it done, that is going to deliver world-class events. Before the building is even open we have already secured the Super Bowl in 2018, the NCAA basketball Final Four in 2019, we are a finalist and seem to be in a pretty good position to secure the college football playoffs, the BCS championship game, you know we’ve got WrestleMania coming.”"

Wait. What? We’ve got WrestleMania coming? It’s time to start saving up some money for all the great attractions and opportunities that the event brings to the community, including the WWE Hall of Fame ceremonies and Axxess weekends!
Well, pump the brakes a little, because the folks at BringMeTheNews.com got to the bottom of Bagley’s quote in a statement from the Vikings:
"“Lester meant to say we are hopeful the new stadium will host a future College Football Playoff Championship and WrestleMania. Unfortunately the mistake was not caught during the editing process. To be clear, Minnesota has not been awarded a future WrestleMania. Minneapolis has submitted a bid and hopes to hear something from WWE by the end of the year. Obviously all U.S. Bank Stadium partners would love to bring the excitement and economic impact of WrestleMania to this market.”"
So, it sounds as though we may have jumped the gun a little on WrestleMania possibly coming to U.S. Bank Stadium, but at least we know that there’s a good possibility that it could happen. And who knows, maybe we’ll get some see some Minnesota Vikings players get in on the act. Wouldn’t that be pretty cool?
