Brock Vereen signed to Minnesota Vikings practice squad (Report)

Former Golden Gopher safety Brock Vereen has become the latest one-time U-of-M player to sign on with the local pro squad.

The Vikings reportedly have added Vereen to their practice squad two days after the ex-Gopher was cut by the Chicago Bears. The knowledge was first dropped on Twitter by Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer-Press.

I’m sure gathering intel on the Bears defense was not an ulterior motive behind the decision to sign Vereen.

I mean the Bears are so bad, it’s not like you really need inside dirt in order to beat them.

The Vikings add the 23-year-old Vereen to their practice squad after losing linebacker Brian Peters who was signed away by the Houston Texans.

Vereen joins fellow former Gopher Isaac Fruechte on the practice squad. Ex-Gopher Marcus Sherels is the Vikings’ punt returner.

The 5-11. 202-pound Vereen was taken by the Bears in the fourth round of the 2014 draft. He played in 16 games for the Bears last year with four starts, amassing 39 tackles, one interception and one fumble.

Given Vereen’s solid stats in 2014, you have to believe he could end up in the safety mix for Minnesota before it’s over.

Just the fact that the Bears got rid of him proves he’s probably not bad.
