Brian Peters plucked by Texans from Vikings practice squad

Former CFL linebacker Brian Peters came close to making the Vikings roster out of training camp but ultimately was cut only to be re-signed to the practice squad.

On Wednesday Peters was plucked away from the Vikings practice squad by the Houston Texans who plan on using him to bolster their special teams.

Peters gave a little scouting report on himself to the Houston Chronicle:

"“As far as kick coverage, I would say I have versatility,” Peters said. “As far as my build and athleticism, I think I’m built to to be successful on special teams. I’m a little bit bigger body that can run. That’s my first priority on this team is to showcase my ability on special teams and help us be successful on special teams.”"

The 26-year-old Peters bounced around the Arena League and CFL for several years before being signed by the Vikings in February.

Peters was pretty impressive in training camp and preseason but Minnesota is so stacked at linebacker that they had to let him go.

I’m sure the Vikings were hoping that no one would want Peters, allowing them to leave him stashed on the practice squad as an extra backup linebacker.

But Peters obviously impressed the Texans with his preseason tape and now the plucky linebacker has himself a 53-man roster spot in the NFL.

Good for him.
