Charles Johnson won’t play for Vikings vs. Denver

The Minnesota Vikings will have to face the Denver Broncos without one of their alleged top wide receivers after ruling out Charles Johnson for the game.

Johnson suffered a rib injury last week against San Diego and was unable to fully participate in practice during the week.

Wide receiver Jarius Wright was also limited in practice Friday after suffering a hand injury against the Chargers and is listed as questionable on the injury report.

So far in 2015, supposed #1 WR Johnson has caught six passes for 46 yards and zero touchdowns.

Supposed #3 receiver Wright has caught five passes for 72 yards and zero touchdowns.

With Johnson on the shelf, the Vikings are expected to activate 2015 fifth-round draft pick Stefon Diggs for the first time this year.

Diggs became a fan favorite in training camp after tales of his receiving exploits were circulated by beat writers and faux-journalists attached to the team.

So there should be plenty of unwarranted excitement if Diggs is called upon to start.

The Vikings could also call upon former first-round draft pick Cordarrelle Patterson. But the less said about him the better.

Minnesota’s best bet if they want to succeed in Denver is to hand the ball off to Adrian Peterson and count on their defense.

Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater has been okay this season but if they need him to beat the Broncos, then they will be in trouble.
