After sitting out the first three games of the season as a healthy scratch, rookie WR Stefon Diggs finally got a chance to play Sunday against Denver and he definitely made the most of it.
Diggs was targeted 10 times in his NFL debut and made six catches for 87 yards. Probably Diggs’ best catch of the day was this 25-yard snag in the second quarter after Teddy Bridgewater scrambled to escape Von Miller.
Diggs later showed off his sharp route-running by putting this fake on Aqib Talib and getting open for the reception.
With Charles Johnson on the shelf, Jarius Wright too banged up to get in the game and Cordarrelle Patterson being his usual worthless self, Diggs was able to emerge and give Bridgewater another go-to receiver beyond Mike Wallace.
The only black mark for Diggs on the day was that he fumbled twice but at least he was able to recover both fumbles.
After Sunday’s performance there’s little question that Stefon Diggs should be a big part of this offense from here on out.
The question is how Norv Turner will divide up the snaps once Charles Johnson returns. The way Diggs played vs. Denver, Johnson may have a hard time regaining his spot as one of Bridgewater’s top targets.
Diggs showed flashes of talent in preseason and we saw yesterday that those flashes were no mirage. The kid is a player.
