According to an article on the Star Tribune website, over 500 pieces of art will be on display in the massive new facility. That number includes about 200 paintings and approximately 300 photos as well as ceramics and sculptures. The idea is to combine an exciting sport with visually appealing artwork in a way that fans can enjoy and appreciate.
It is said that the art, which was completely paid for by Minnesota Vikings owner Zygi Wilf, cost “several million” dollars and will be on display on a regular basis in U.S. Bank Stadium. Tanya Dreesen, one of the vice presidents for the Vikings, feels the art will reflect the sport of football well.
"“Art and sports are about drama and excitement and the Vikings collection will reflect that,” said Dreesen. “This is a privately funded collection. We are excited to make everybody aware that we are paying these artists. It’s putting artists to work, quite frankly, and their work will be displayed in public areas and our clubs and suites.”"
The Minnesota Vikings and the state of Minnesota are pouring a lot of money into U.S. Bank Stadium to make it the best facility it can be when it opens for the 2016 season. When the team made the call to fans for their artwork, they were overwhelmed by the response they got. Over 1,100 individuals applied to Sports & The Arts have their art showcased.
"“We were overwhelmed by the number of submissions, and they’re very good artists, so I think the Vikings’ stadium will top everything we’ve done before,” said Camille Speca, a SATA partner."
Personally, I’m getting more and more excited every day for the construction to be complete and U.S. Bank Stadium to be ready for action. This should be a monumental structure that fans will be in awe of for several decades to come. The future is definitely looking bright for both the Minnesota Vikings and their new stadium.
