Jamaal Charles likely out for season with torn ACL
By Dan Zinski
When the Vikings play Kansas City next week they will likely not have to face Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles.
That’s because in today’s game vs. Chicago, Charles suffered a knee injury that will likely put him on the shelf for the rest of the season.
In the third quarter Charles went down with a non-contact injury and had to be helped off the field. He did not return in the game, which the Bears went on to win.
After the game Chiefs coach Andy Reid gave the bad news on Charles:
No running back showdown between Jamaal Charles and Adrian Peterson next week at TCF Bank Stadium.

I’m sure a lot of people were looking forward to that particular RB matchup and will be disappointed not to see it go down.
At the same time…well, there’s no use ignoring it, so I’ll just say it:
Jamaal Charles being out gives the Vikings a better chance to beat the Chiefs and get to 3-2.
Unfortunately, injuries are a part of the deal in the NFL. The Chiefs received a huge blow with the loss of Charles. But the Vikings got a little bit of a break.
That’s just a fact. Unpleasant as it may be to admit.
Of course, the Chiefs losing their star offensive player doesn’t guarantee a darn thing for the Vikings. The Vikes still have to go out there and execute.
Whoever the Chiefs play in place of Charles is getting paid to run the ball too and the Vikes will still have to stop him.
And you never know about the emotional effect the injury could have on the Chiefs. It could deflate them, but it could also become a rallying point.
My point being, the Vikings may have caught a break with the Charles injury, but that’s not something they should even think about as they prepare during the week.
The Vikes need to take care of business themselves, and if they do that, they should be able to beat Kansas City.
